I’ve Found An Easier Way To Choose Color!
Here’s a fact for you, my techniques are fool proof! It is all about color value…..understanding and using color value will effortlessly create quilts with, Depth, Luminosity, Shadows, Highlights, Luster, and even transparency! It is really easy, trust me. But first read what my other students have to say about my techniques:

I learned more about color value in the one day class than at Art School! Tammie’s instructions were great! I watched my photo come to life in the class. I will treasure my quilt for a lifetime!

Tammie is a lovely, energetic & wildly creative woman! I thought quilted photography would be intense and difficult, but with amazing results.....only half of that is true, her technique is simple, clear and it does yield amazing results!

Tammie, I did enjoy your class very much.. I was a little apprehensive at first, but the more I worked on it and then started sewing, it all came into place. My husband couldn’t believe what he was seeing! Anyone that comes over keep asking “How did you do that?!
    Peggy Fullmer
    Anaheim, CA

The quilt I made in class has won “First Place in two shows, one “Judges Choice and one “Best of Show!
    Marlene Pearson
    Santa Barbara, CA

I learned so much about the color value of fabrics! I now use this knowledge on other quilt blocks and wearable art. What a valuable addition to my quilting education! Thank You

Quilted Photography is totally unique and exciting. It involves two things that make me love quilting, it’s looks hard but is really quiet simple. And it is fun too!

Okay lets start, my suggestion to you is don’t skip around….start at the beginning and read all the way through the end. If you skip around you will miss important information.

Color Value And Its Importance
Read this section carefully because really understanding this concept can make the difference between creating stunning quilts or average quilts.

Color value is how light or dark a fabric is in relation to the other fabrics in your color palette. A color palette is the collection of fabrics used to make your quilt. The most important step in making a photo quilt (or any kind of quilt…) is arranging your  fabrics in order (from light to dark) by color value. I have found that it is hard for me to see the color value of fabrics with my naked eye. My eyes are easily fooled by the colors. To solve this problem, I use three processes that allows me to see the values of the fabrics separately from the colors. I will teach you method #2 in this lesson.

Method 2
For this method of finding the values of your fabrics, you will use my “Quilted Photo Xpress 1.0 software that you can get by free download with any of my books. First you will cut a small piece of the fabrics you will be using to make your quilt. Tape one fabric piece in each of the boxes on the following form. Next you will scan the form and open the file in the Quilted Photo Xpress 1.0 software and lastly, print your pattern. Your fabrics will be numbered and you will know if you are missing any values.

Once you have your fabrics in order by color value, your success is guaranteed! Not only is color value very important but it is even more important than the colors you choose! If you follow these instructions to sort your fabrics, you will effortlessly create highlights, shadows, and depth in your quilted photographs.
