Using The Color Wheel My Way The color wheel is a very useful tool if you know how to use it, and very confusing if you don’t. I have
come up with a few simple suggestion on how to use it for Quilted Photography. I have not seen these techniques any where else, so read carefully, it will help you.
This is a standard color wheel with primary colors , secondary colors and Intermediate colors.
- Primary = Red, Yellow and Blue
- Secondary = Violet, Green and Orange. This is a mixture of two primary colors.
- Intermediate = The mixture of a primary and the adjacent secondary color

We are also concerned with the value of the fabrics you
will use for Quilted Photography, so notice that the base colors in the color wheel is in the center, and the lighter and darker values are below and above it.
Try choosing your colors starting from the
lighter pastels on the inner circle, moving out to the darker colors. I have marked some way to do this with the white arrows.
You can move straight out, or curve around
the wheel. It is OK to curve around clockwise, or counter clockwise. I always start with the warmer colors like yellow, orange or pink, but
you can start anywhere on the wheel.
These colors are the example palettes for the above selections.
